Vladimirskaya
Description
The original Vladimirskaya or Madonna of Tenderness is one of the most precious icons known to the Orthodox Church. The original is now in The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow but was created by an unknown Byzantine artist in Constantinople and at some time in the fourteenth century it was sent to the Russian city of Vladimir, hence the name. It is one of the best known works of art in Russian history, and widely believed to be the source of miracles.
