Dimitris Kolioussis
Byzantium Reimagined
“Byzantine art operates beyond realism. It is both ancient and modern. And it speaks of more than just the image.”
Dimitris Kolioussis
Santorini artist Dimitris Kolioussis paints a modern vision of Byzantium. Byzantine art is a bridge between the ancient and modern worlds. Centered on Constantinople and drawing inspiration from classical Greek mythology and from Christian iconography, it marks the emergence of an art beyond naturalism and the beginnings of a new symbolic art. Byzantine art is about belief, about presence, about the innate power of the image. These are the qualities that Dimitris Kolioussis has carried into the modern world.
Dimitris’ work is found in churches in Santorini and in many other parts of Greece. They have also found their place in art collections across the world from domestic houses to royal palaces.
“Dimitris is a devoted master of his art as an iconographer. When I look upon
the works, I feel inspired and strive to become the best I can be”.
